No Silver Linings in Mitt's Loss
I should have stopped caring after New Hampshire. I'm trying to stop caring now.
John McCain is now the Republican nominee. If John McCain wins the presidency, the Republican Party is done for at least two decades.
If the Democrat wins, conservatives may be able to reclaim the party in 2010.
I'm voting for the Democrat, whoever they may be. I would be less disgusted with Obama, but it's definitely Hillary over McCain.

Obama looks like a decent man. I probably disagree with 80% of his platform but the same is true with McCain.
If it's Obama v. McCain, this life-long Republican will vote Obama - since it's essentially one Democrat v. another Democratic candidate. This is really sad.

Unfortunately I can't recall where I saw it, but it was an analysis of Fred Thompson. Basically, South Carolina belonged to Huckabee, and it was a state that he should have won. Fred, by attacking Huckster and leaving McCain alone, bled enough votes away from Huckster to deliver South Carolina to his Senate buddy McCain, whose candidacy he chaired in 2000. McCain's victory (in a state he lost in 2000), and Huckster's second-place win, left Huckster crippled when they went into the Florida primary. There was a real threat of a resurgent Huckster (post South Carolina) in Florida, taking in enough votes to help Romney jump past McCain. Huckster placed poorly in Florida (along with Giuliani), and the state went McCain instead of Romney. I think the blog suggested that this was Fred's by accident (or even design), and there's probably one or two phony assumptions in there, but just the concept that "Fred's presence in the race helped Mac win two states" was what twigged my interest. I wish I could remember the exact link.

I haven't forgotten Mitt is a Mormon, FK. Sadly, I think a good deal of the resistance to him is being masked behind other objections, but when you get right down to it, too many people won't vote for a Mormon.

SC... I truly believe that Mitt has known for a long time that this isn't to be. That he is still willing to put in all of his effort and ride it out speaks to his character, and his willingness to consecrate his resources for a higher purpose.
Don't get me wrong... I support Mitt, and we pray for him by name in my home. But we don't get overly disappointed when he doesn't win a primary. There are bigger mountains to climb, so to speak.
