On Palin
I wanted Mitt. But I have to concede that she's an excellent choice. Conservative, fiesty, female - and, most importantly, fiercely pro-ANWR drilling. Hopefully, that's a sign that McCain may actually be moving in the right direction on that one. After trying to come to terms with Pawlenty, a milquetoast, nothing, Mitt-lite choice, Palin seems like a breath of fresh air.

First impression -- the governor of Alaska? Are you kidding me?
Second impression -- after thinking about it for a whole 20 minutes, I still don't like it. This choice immediately undercuts the "Barack has no experience" claim, one of McCain's best's arguments. This choice clearly shows that McCain is pandering to Hillary supporters, and reeks to me of desperation. McCain also appears to me to be showing with this pick that he has no respect for the VP office, as she clearly is not the most qualified to take over the top spot should something happen to McCain. Therefore, the arguments that she's pro-life, conservative, etc., and will therefore balance out McCain's liberal tendencies don't hold water with me.
I hope I'm wrong.
I'm not sure this pick undercuts the experience argument. In the first place, McCain would be the Prez; she'd be the apprentice Prez. Biden's experience is supposed to compensate for Obama's lack thereof; McCain doesn't need a similar boost.
In addition, she's actually done things. Obama hasn't. Yes, she's fresh on the scene, but she's not nearly as inexperienced.
The Hillary thing is just a bonus; She's a bedrock, pro-life, pro-drilling conservative. McCain could - and would, if he followed his heart - do a lot worse.
Let's not forget too - that she is not just the first female Republican Vice Presidential candidate - she's the first cute female candidate either party has put up for President or Vice President. I don't understand why the media isn't treating this as the historic moment it is.
This is like when Bush Sr chose Dan Quayle to appeal to younger voters. This may be a masterstroke.
Although Quayle was completely useless as VP.
This is the first time I've felt even the slimmest glimmer of excitement towards the McCain campaign. I oppse her on the abortion issue, but then the abortiop issue has never been a deal breaker for me in the first place.
This chic is alright. The lack of experience argument deons't hold water because A. she's got mroe experience than the Marxist Messiah, abd B. it's the president who has the primary need for experience, not the VP.
There may be something to the notion though that this was at least in part meant to appeal to the disenfranchised Hillary supporters.
Quayle may have been useles, but he was aware that there are only 50 states.
The Dems have it backwards. The President needs to be the experienced one.
Palin is a smart choice. He helps bring in the woman vote; she's conservate and hits on the right issues for the Republicans; she also brings in the younger voters.
If the Republicans can hammer away at the lack of substance in Obama's message then the McCain-Palin ticket could win this election.

She was my pick for VP from the beginning. thought I likes Romney I knew he wouldn't be it. it just doesn't work that way especially when there are a load of voters that would vote simply for the historical" factor...aka first black president (though in my honest opinion he is mixed race, not black) or first female VP. I think it's a good pick.. besides the fact that she is very fiesty yet not willing to figurativly throw the baby out with the bathwater (refurring to environmental issues vs drilling in ANWR)... if you know what I mean.

I understand that there are two primary negatives here.
One is she may be currently under investigation for an abuse of power charge.
Two, her husband may work at BP oil.
As a woman, I'm kind of liking this pistol packin' mamma. All of the adjectives I've seen or heard describing her sound like me. I'm O.K. with that.

As for international/foreign policy experience, I understand her fishing boats did special ops sorties against Soviet...er Russian whalers near "international" waters just east of the aleutian islands. I don't think news outlets have picked up on this yet, though.
I was also wondering who's taking care of that baby. Since when does breaking the glass ceiling make it okay to leave your kids to do it? Having said that, this announcement has made me perk up and pay attention again. I'm definitely curious so that's a point in her favor. We'll see...
I was reading about her in Time magazine a few months ago. Strange coincidence. I liked her style.
